VDI Technologiezentrum. The VDI Technologiezentrum GmbH is an institution of the association of German engineers. The activities of the VDI Technologiezentrum aim to strengthen technological performance and competence of economy and research and to find solutions to ecological, economic and social problems by investigation, analysis and evaluation of technologies while acting responsibly to the society.
The VDI Technologiezentrum GmbH sees itself as a promotor of research, development and innovation and acts as a moderator for cross subject joint efforts of science and economy when coordinating contents and procedures. Since 1973 the VDI Technologiezentrum works on behalf of and with the support of the federal ministry for training and research (FMTR) and other public institutions.

Competence centres and networks
Since 1998 the FMTR have been supporting so called competence centres, which aim for the best possible implementation of nano technological knowledge in products, production procedures and services. Their areas of work are in the following sectors:
www.nanobionet.de
CC-Nanobiotech – Kaiserslautern (competence centre Nanobiotechnology) Here the focus is on development, which arises from the combination of biotechnology and nano technology.
www.cc-nanochem.de
CC-NanoChem – Saarbrücken Chemical nanotechnology and its applications in products, materials or process technology are the objects of activity here.
